Passa Porta is part of the HALMA network, established in 2006 by the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin with the support of the Bosch Stiftung. Today, HALMA 27 unites European literary centres that develop forms of cooperation to facilitate intercultural dialogue and exchange between different regions. LAF works with partnerships between European organisations that are active internationally, with a focus on literary translating. As a member of the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN), Passa Porta provides lodging in Brussels to persecuted writers. ICORN unites cities (or organisations active in cities) striving for greater freedom of expression. They are committed to providing refuge to writers for a period of 1 to 2 years, and guiding them in gaining acceptance as an artist in a new political, social and cultural context. Since 2010, the Passa Porta project has enjoyed the active support of the City of Brussels (Victor Hugo project). The city makes an apartment available where the writer can live. More...
