10 years Het beschrijf (2008)
On 21 November 2008, literary organisation Het beschrijf, the forerunner of Passa Porta, celebrated its tenth anniversary with a grand festive evening at the Royal Flemish Theatre.
Ten writers – of diverse backgrounds, with a link to Brussels and to Het beschrijf – read from their own work and focused on the theme ‘hybrid identities’: Kader Abdolah, Thomas Gunzig, Jens Christian Grøndahl, Lieve Joris, Rachida Lambrabet, Claudio Magris, Alberto Manguel, Cees Nooteboom, Peter Verhelst and Richard Powers.
We followed them on an exciting journey from the perspective of Google Earth: from the intimacy of the writing room via Brussels, Flanders, Belgium, Europe and beyond. Richard Powers was virtually present. Viviane De Muynck and musician Jef Neve provided their own unique accompaniment. Production was in the hands of Ruud Gielens.
Arrival in Brussels was presented at the same time: an exceptional publication with texts and portraits by foreign writers-in-residence, the first in a series of Het beschrijf Cahiers in collaboration with publisher Vrijdag. Read more...
