Writing Workshops

Passa Porta is the right place for writers or aspiring writers who want to learn about writing or perfect their own talent.

Workshops for Dutch writers are called Vers Bloed (Fresh Blood).  The French workshops are organized by the Kalame network.

Vers Bloed

Vers Bloed calls upon writers and aspiring writers to sharpen their pencils and perfect their craft.

Vers Bloed organizes workshops and master classes. In doing so, it hopes to make a vital contribution to Flemish and Belgian litrature. It wants to counter the immanent litarery anemia, the provincialism and isolationism in our literature.

Vers Bloed is especially looking for writers and aspiring writers of foreign origin. It is, after all, striking how few writers with outlandish roots are active in Flanders. While the Netherlands, France, Great Britain and Germany have already shown the vibrant imput foreign writers have on the national literature.

Workshop teachers or coaches are writers of some repute.  In the past, Peter Verhelst, Kristien Hemmerechts, Koen Peeters, Stefan Hertmans and Benno Barnard have filled these posts.

During the season 2009-2010, Vers Bloed will temporarily not be able to organize writing workshops.

This initative is a part of the European project, Shahrazad, and is supported by the European Union.

Kalame

Entrez Lire workshops are open to everyone who wants to write more and in particular, wants to write better.

Workshops may be held over a weekend, or may sometimes consist of a series of different sessions, or be an intensive week-long course.  Some workshops will concentrate on one specific genre while others may focus on the work of a particular author.

The coaches are authors who are members of the Kalame network.

There is also an illustration workshop, hosted by Dominique Maes.  This workshop is presented in  collaboration with Arts Narratifs.
