On 11 August writer-in-residence Neske Beks and dramaturge Selm Wenselaers will talk about family and their respective passion for language and how it shapes the world.

Unfortunately, due to the cancellation of Neske Beks' residency due to the COVID-19 crisis, this event cannot take place.

Welcome to our house!

After a spring spent withdrawn from the world, we invite you this summer to look at the world beyond the four walls that surround you. Throughout the summer, you can go backstage at Passa Porta and enjoy a drink while engaging in frank conversations about literature and the world of today. Every Tuesday, towards the end of the day, we will invite one or two authors to talk about and read from their work in a casual setting. Poets, slammers, novelists and non-fiction authors, established names and emerging talents in the Belgian literary landscape and beyond will take the floor to question contemporary society, always through the lens of literature.

Neske beks

Neske Beks is a multidisciplinary artist with foundations in theatre, word, image and music. She mainly works as a film-maker and writer, making documentaries and performances, and writing prose. Neske calls herself a dealer in stories: ‘I “capture” stories and choose the right medium for each story. I also help others find their own story and voice. Storytelling is always the core.’ During her residency, Neske will work on her upcoming novel, Omdat we ook zijn wat we hebben verloren, a memoir about her youth as a black girl in a white foster family.

Selm Wenselaers

Selm Wenselaers is a producer, dramaturge and genderalist. Writing, theatre, visual art, performance, dance, documentary, heritage. It is always and ever about stories. Selm is the author of the book De laatste Belgen. Een geschiedenis van de Oostkantons. Since April 2019 Selm has worked at Museum Arnhem as city curator and ‘does what is necessary’ for SoAP Maastricht. In addition, Selm works as an independent dramaturge, moderator, curator, writer and researcher.
