Ida Hegazi Høyer
Ida Hegazi Høyer (b. 1981) is a Norwegian writer with Danish and Egyptian roots. She was born in Denmark but grew up in Oslo and studied sociology there. She now lives in Oslomarka, a wooded area near Oslo.
Ida Hegazi Høyer debuted in 2012 with the novel Under verden ('Under World'; Tiden Norsk Verlag), in which she shows an exceptional eye for detail, crafting an intriguing fictional world. Her novel Ut ('Out'; Tiden Norsk Verlag, 2013) was awarded the Bjørnson Stipend, a Norwegian literary prize for outstanding young writers. For Unnskyld ('Forgive Me'; Tiden Norsk Verlag, 2014), Høyer received the European Union Prize for Literature. This book is about a passionate love affair, the darkest sides of daily life, and lying as a means of self-defence.
Høyer's most recent book is the novel Fortellingen om øde ('The Story of the Desert'; Tiden Norsk Verlag, 2015), about conflicts in a small community and the insignificance of human beings in confrontation with nature.
Ida Hegazi Høyer will stay in the Passa Porta writers' flat in March 2016. Her residency is part of a collaboration with the European Union Prize for Literature, of which she was one of the winners in 2015.
