Portraits of ghost authors
In a charming little tower building, hidden in the Passa Porta Bookshop corridor, a multitude of authors will stop by before and after their performance to sign their books. While waiting for an autograph, you can take a moment to admire the wonderful photo portraits made by Alexandra Cool. These portraits show authors during a writer’s residence at Villa Hellebosh .

villa hellebosch
For years Passa Porta organized residencies for foreign authors at Villa Hellebosh, a beautiful manor house in Vollezele, which provides the perfect place to write in peace. Hostess Alexandra Cool used a pinhole camera to create author portraits with very long exposure times. In doing so, she captured the authors as well as their writing process. The authors appear as imperceptible ghosts.

The photographs were already exhibited in 2011 at the Antwerp Museum of Photography. Since the collection is so fitting for a literature festival on the theme of “ghosts”, Alexandra Cool was willing to exhibit some of her portraits once again at Passa Porta. The exhibition will be accessible during all Passa Porta Festival signings.
