‘Social distancing’ is wat Corona-experts adviseren, ‘social nearness’ is wat we met onze literaire ontmoetingen beogen. Passa Porta wil het contact met lezers en schrijvers niet verliezen en geeft daarom de komende weken het woord aan een selectie auteurs uit binnen-en buitenland, die we vroegen om een persoonlijk ‘Bericht aan de bevolking’ vanuit hun schrijfkamer.
De Britse dichteres Claudine Toutoungi groeide op in Warwickshire. Naast poëzie schrijft ze voor het podium, het scherm en de radio. In april zou Toutoungi naar Brussel komen voor een auteursresidentie bij Passa Porta. In de plaats daarvan stuurde ze ons dit advies in de vorm van een nieuw kort gedicht.

Exit Strategy
Regard the copper-beech by evening sun
To find some height, some hope of what’s to come
And if the lassitude of elms confounds your heart
Take note of how the robin stops and starts and
Tries to trip you up with cavalcades of joy so sharp
You almost stagger; and if you stagger when
Mute darkness holds you tight, enlist the tender
Clatter of the morning birds to chase away the night.
