2024 - Gerda Dendooven
Gerda Dendooven is a Flemish writer and draftsman.
Many of Gerda Dendooven’s books became plays and they also regularly make live images at concerts or literary performances. In 2021 she signed live with the performance of Peer Gynt by the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra. Together with Mauro Pawlowski and Fikry El Azzouzi she forms Trio El Azzouzi.
Dendooven has a drawing style that is immediately recognizable by the humor and humanity but also by expressive dynamics and exaggerations, often inspired by the Flemish expressionists. In 2007 she was appointed first (and only) Child consul on behalf of Stichting Lezen, now Iedereen Leest (Everyone Reads). In 2022 and 2023 she is nominated for the Alma, Astrid Lindgren Award.
During her stay at Paulet House, she plans to finetune a novel for children, inspired by the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. She also hopes to find some inspiration to continue another short novel for children that needs more input.
