2024 - Almula Türedi
Almula Türedi (born 1982) is a Turkish writer whose stories often deal with themes of feeling an outsider, loneliness, vulnerability and ‘marginal’ identities, always from the perspective of ‘others’.
In 2005, Almula entered a French story contest with a Turkish story published in French in the book La Lune et puis (Forum Femmes Méditerranée, Marseille). Her first collection of short stories Gelinciklerin Ölümü (‘The Death of the Poppies’) was published in 2022. A regular contributor to the Turkish magazine Bavul, Almula also writes screenplays, poems and theatre texts. When words get too heavy, she draws and paints.
The novel she will be working on during her residency at Passa Porta is about a Turkish woman who settles in Brussels as a professor and begins to seriously question herself.
