Yassmin Abdel-Magied (1991) is a Sudanese diaspora author, broadcaster and award-winning social advocate living in the UK.

The former engineer has published five books, most recently: Stand Up and Speak Out Against Racism (Walker Books US, 2023) named as ‘Best Book of the Year’ by School Library Journal. Previous books include the essay collection Talking About A Revolution (PRH, 2022) and Listen Layla  (Puffin, 2021), longlisted for Book of the Year by The Children’s Book Council of Australia. Her social and political commentary has appeared in TIME, The Guardian, The New York Times, The New Arab, Times Literary Supplement, Teen Vogue, The Independent and more. 

Yassmin also writes for stage and screen. In 2020, she co-wrote the sold-out immersive theatre production in Kensington Palace, United Queendom. She is currently developing a number of screenplays with production companies across the globe. 

At Passa Porta, Yassmin will be working on a new adult novel, focused on life as a migrant Muslim in Francophone Europe. Her residency has been made possible thanks to an exchange between Passa Porta and the National Centre for Writing in Norwich.
