2026 - Bregje Hofstede

Residencies for foreign authors
31/03/2026 - 27/04/2026

Bregje Hostede (1988) is a Dutch writer, journalist and activist.

She made her debut in 2014 with the novel De hemel boven Parijs ("The Sky Above Paris"), which was nominated for several literary awards in The Netherlands. In addition to narrative fiction, she has also published non-fiction works, such as the collection of essays De herontdekking van het lichaam: over de burn-out (‘The Rediscovery of the Body: on burn-out", 2016) and Slaap vatten: hoe een slapeloze de nacht terugwon (‘Getting sleep: how a sleepless person gained back the night”, 2020). Her latest novel is Oersoep (2023), a lyrical story that at times feels more like a trip than a novel. Hofstede’s work has been translated into German, Danish, English, Arabic and Polish, among other languages.

During her residency at Passa Porta, she is working on a new novel, steeped in the mystical and the transcendent.
