You’re a writer, but you lack the time and space to complete your project in peace and quiet. Our writer residencies will meet all your needs!
Go the bottom of this page to check out our various residencies and workspaces!
As the international house of literature, we are here to stimulate the creation of literature. That is why, ever since Passa Porta was founded in 2004, we have been organizing residencies for authors, translators and author-curators from Belgium and abroad.
As a foreign writer-in-residency at Passa Porta you have at your disposal, for a minimum of four and a maximum of eight weeks, a comfortable and quiet apartment on Oude Graanmarkt.
For Belgian authors we also provide carefully selected writing places in Belgium, either in Brussels or in Ingooigem. Together with international partners we also organize writer residencies for Flemish authors abroad.
Besides the tangible support, there are also many intangible advantages. You come in contact with the many international partners of Passa Porta (publishers, translators, bookshops, programmers, etc.), you develop a new audience with which you can engage in dialogue via meetings and possible writing assignments. As an author-curator, you will also develop skills to create public programmes and/or to reflect and engage in dialogue with other authors through other public platforms.
Every year Passa Porta receives five foreign authors for a residency in Brussels. We create the ideal work environment for their literary project, in the research and writing phase.
As a Flemish writer you can apply for a residency in Belgium or abroad. The residency gives you the chance to do research, to develop an international network and to write.
Francophone Belgian authors
Are you Belgian and in need of space and time to write? We have several possible solutions for you.
Are you a writer and are you looking for a quiet and comfortable workspace where you can isolate yourself completely from the outside world? Then you are quite literally at the right address at Passa Porta. We put two workspaces in the heart of Brussels at the disposal of authors, each with a distinct formula: Workspace I ‘write’ and Workspace II ‘write & sleep’.
