In Search of Lost Time, In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower, Marcel Proust
“With a group of writer friends, I am reading Proust's In Search of Lost Time. The second book, part of which is set in Balbec, is a particularly perfect book for summer, when time expands, when the setting becomes a world of its own, the groups of people we encounter are at once immortal and fleeting. The summer leaves its strange ephemeral mark on us, like a dream.”
Ayşegül Savaş (b. 1986) grew up in Turkey and Denmark. She has been published in The New Yorker, The Paris Review and The Guardian, among others. She graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute and now lives in Paris. She is the author of White on White and The Anthropologists, one of Barack Obama’s favourite books of 2024. As part of an evening dedicated to Sylvia Plath, Ayşegül Savaş wrote an original text for Passa Porta during this literary season.
