Passa Porta is looking for Georges Perec fans
On 7 October 2026, the day before the next Nobel Prize in Literature is announced, the Brussels house of literature will posthumously award Georges Perec the 9th Passa Porta Noble Prize. This prize is a symbolic decoration for a writer who failed to receive a Nobel Prize during their lifetime but who, according to Passa Porta, certainly deserved one. The previous winners of our Noble Prize are Jorge Luis Borges, Franz Kafka, Hugo Claus, Marguerite Yourcenar, Louis Paul Boon, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Virginia Woolf and Octavia E. Butler.
After careful consideration, Passa Porta’s artistic team has this year chosen Georges Perec (1936–1982), whose versatile, adventurous and inventive work is, we find, still exceptionally relevant and inspiring for contemporary readers and writers.
More information on the national and international guests we are inviting to the official award ceremony on 7 October will be communicated after the summer through our website, newsletters and social media.
But for now, here’s our question to all fans:
What’s your favourite Perec text or book, and why? Is there a passage you’d like to come and read aloud in your own language at Passa Porta on 7 October?
Fill this form in before the 7th of Septembre and let us know! We’ll be in touch in September to let you know whether we can give you the floor that day.
