Passa Porta’s breezy podcast summer series: literature shaken and stirred!

Our guest for this Booktail is Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi. She studied and taught English literature in Uganda before continuing her studies in Manchester in 2001, where she now teaches creative writing. Her debut novel Kintu was hailed as the Great Ugandan Novel and a modern classic. Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi talks about her second novel The First Woman to our podcast host, the Belgian writer and critic Catherine Vuylsteke. The First Woman is based on the Ugandan creation story of the first woman. A sweeping yet deeply personal novel about longing and rebellion, steeped in old traditions and feminism.
