"I don't believe anymore that fiction can save me."
Muhanned Bennana

Muhanned Bennana is a young Lybian journalist and prose writer who had to flee his country and found refuge in Ghent. In 2019 he was invited for a short writing residency at Passa Porta, where he worked on a first English-language prose text with the support of the Literary Europe Live project. On 28 August 2020 he came to see us again at Passa Porta during a Summer aperitif with his friend the Flemish author Annelies Verbeke, who advised him during the writing process.

Read Muhanned’s text “What is My Place?” in English, French or Dutch, under the video.

"My mistakes are the salt of my texts."
Muhanned Bennana
this event took place during a residency organised as part of the literary europe live plus project focused on refugee writers and supported by the creative europe programme of the european union.
