The meeting between Olivier Schrauwen and Colorama begins in a location,Berlin, where the artist lives and the publishing house is based. That is where their paths crossed and where they worked together: Colorama printed Schrauwen’s latest book, Sunday, chapter by chapter, using a special printing technique for the purpose. American comic-book master Chris Ware, known for Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth, among other works, called the book ‘a masterpiece’ in The New York Review of Books. What is the Berlin feeling, and can they bring it to Brussels?
fun
Olivier Schrauwen’s work is groundbreaking, progressive and playful, but above all it is fun. The same term can be used to describe what Colorama has been doing for more than ten years as a publisher and printer. Johanna Maierski and her team have created a generous and colourful catalogue that provides a platform for the work of new and revolutionary comic strip artists such as Melek Zertal, José Quintanar, Ana Haifisch and Aisha Franz. They have built up a real community and are now a key player in the contemporary German and European comic scene.
immersion
From Here To There opens on 6 March at 18:00 at VROOM and can be visited there every Saturday and Sunday between 13:00 and 18:00 until 15 March. On 14 March at 20:00, there will be a performance by Olivier Schrauwen at the same venue. The double conversation on 7 March at Passa Porta will round off the programme. A great opportunity to immerse yourself completely in the wonderful world of two pioneers from the world of comics.
