Cancelled

The famous British writer and film-maker Iain Sinclair will be Passa Porta’s writer-in-residence in March. At Passa Porta he will work on a book in which Brussels plays a role. During this evening Sinclair will shed light, in words and images, on this and other projects through conversations, readings and film fragments.

‘Social distancing’ is what Corona experts advise, ‘social nearness’ is what we aim for with our literary events. Because we are unable to provide that now, but even more so because we don’t want to put others at risk, we are cancelling our activities until the end of March. For each of these activities we will try to organise them at a later date.

If you are a ticket holder you will be contacted and reimbursed. We will also give you priority to reserve tickets when we have fixed a later date.
For conversations with writers, new ideas and stories, you are welcome to visit our online magazine. Passa Porta Bookshop will remain open.

Psychogeography

Playing a role in Sinclair’s forthcoming novel is a long walk to the battlefield of Waterloo, which he carried out with the Brussels poet Adolfo Barberá del Rosal, Sinclair’s Spanish translator. Together with del Rosal, Sinclair shares a fascination for inspiring rambles through obscure (urban) areas. Ever heard of ‘psychogeography’? Well, if you set out to explore a new (preferably urban) environment without any preconceived plan, then you’re doing it.

“Sinclair breathes wondrous life into monstrous, man-made landscapes.”
Times Literary Supplement

About the author

Since his debut in the 1970s, Iain Sinclair (b. 1943 in Cardiff) has published dozens of novels, non-fiction books, essays and poetry volumes. Famous early works include Lud Heat and Downriver. In his recent works, such as the trilogy London Orbital / London Overground and The Last London: True Fictions from an Unreal City, his occultism and psychogeography are ubiquitous. In 2018 he published Living with Buildings: Walking with Ghosts – On Health and Architecture (Wellcome), a razor-sharp analysis of our urban environment. (see https://wellcomecollection.org... ).
