“Let me like really dig deep into this. I don’t like generalities. I like specific, where we can turn it in the light.”
Jay Bernard

As part of Passa Porta’s special Summer programme, our British writer in residence Jay Bernard (Surge: Side A, Ted Hughes Poetry Award 2018) had a warm and in-depth conversation with their colleague, the Brussels-based author Sulaiman Addonia. Both authors compared their views on being a citizen of a particular place, responsibility, Linda Alcoff’s The Problem of Speaking for Others, Toni Morrison’s Playing in the Dark, multilingualism, and the importance of both specificity and complexity.
