In the early morning -feeling extra early due to the switch to summer time- we took a flying start, meeting five authors in underneath two hours. Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer, Nino Haratischwili, Charlotte Van den Broeck, Paolo Giordano and Simone Atangana Bekono told Wim Helsen in Winteruur which texts inspire them. Russell Banks uncovered what it takes to be a writer, Marie NDiaye talked about her unique oeuvre, David Vann listened to Yoann Blanc read from Halibut on the Moon, Jenny Erpenbeck spoke about the refugee crisis and we discovered poetry.
After a lunch inspired by books with Ryoko Sekiguchi, a Sieste sonore and a literary city walk, Johan Harstad, Delphine de Vigan, Fatou Diome, François Gemenne, Reni Eddo-Lodge, Olga Tokarczuk and Jonathan Coe added titles to our to-read lists. The final program of the festival was also a fresh beginning, as we were all first-time readers of works-in-progress by Lize Spit, Jeroen Olyslaegers, Thomas Gunzig, Lola Lafon and Olga Tokarczuk.
